Trusting that a diversity of voices can only elevate our profession, we share our passion for architectural lighting with the youth of Southern California.
Welcome to the Los Angeles Lighting Speakers Bureau, where we share our passion for all things lighting with youth in our communities. Coming together for a first-of-its-kind effort, the IES Los Angeles Section, the IALD Southern California Chapter, and WILD Los Angeles collectively see a need to diversify the voices in our industry:
- To increase awareness of our profession at a crucial time
- To ensure success for our industry in an inclusive future
- To lift up marginalized voices in our SoCal communities
- To drive innovation and more fully serve the built environment
We have divvied up the audiences into high schools and community colleges, afterschool and summer programs serving high-schoolers, and universities that do not currently have a strong lighting component in their curricula. Whatever the level, all lighting professionals have valuable expertise and personal experience to share.
Architectural lighting is an industry in churn, and the coming decades will bring new generations of interactive technology into our homes and workplaces. But the technical artistry – where beautiful lighting reveals architecture and creates experiences – remains fascinating. Young people will bring vital digital skills to an already-rewarding industry. Together we can make a difference in a young person’s trajectory.
